The M1A1/2 Abrams main battle tank is manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS). The first M1 tank was produced in 1978, the M1A1 in 1985 and the M1A2 in 1986.
Leopard I
Leopard I is the Main battle tank of Germany arny. Development was started in 1956. The first prototypes were built in 1965 at the Krauss-Maffei factory. The Leopard 1 saw service in the armies of more than 10 countries.
Leopard 2
Leopard 2 is a main battle tank developed by Krauss-Maffei, now Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW), of Munchen, Germany. The Leopard 2 is a successor to the successful Leopard 1.
Challenger 1
In September 1978, the British Ministry of Defence placed an order with the Royal Ordnance Factory Leeds for the supply of 243 Challenger 1s, essentially a further development of the Shir 2 originally developed for Iran. This order was valued at £300 million.
Challenger 2
Challenger 2 is an advanced main battle tank built by BAE Systems. Challenger 2 is in service with the British Army and with the Royal Army of Oman. The UK placed orders for 127 Challenger 2 tanks in 1991 and an additional 259 in 1994. In 1993 Oman ordered 18 Challenger 2 tanks and an order for a further 20 tanks was placed in November 1997.
